Prof. Neumann began his veterinary studies in 1984 at the Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover, completing his degree and licensure (Approbation) in 1989. He immediately pursued doctoral research at the Clinic for Cattle Diseases at the same institution, completing his dissertation in 1991. His doctoral thesis investigated integrated herd management in specialized beef cattle farms in Upper Bavaria, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. W. Klee. He earned his Fachtierarzt (specialist veterinarian) certification in small animals in 1996 and in laboratory diagnostics in 1998. In 2004, he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP), reflecting his deep specialization in clinical diagnostics.
